Power stretcher vs knee kicker on old hardwood, my mistake

I picked the knee kicker for a 12x15 living room in an 1890s house. Thought the floor was too fragile for a power stretcher. Big error. The carpet rippled so bad the homeowner noticed before I even finished trimming. Had to pull it all up and redo with the power stretcher. Took twice as long because the tack strips were already down. If you see hardwood with gaps or squeaks, use the power stretcher but go easy on the force. Anyone else had a job fail from dodging a tool you thought would cause damage?
