Watched a guy lose a finger to a jobsite table saw in Fresno because of one missing push stick
I was framing a garage in Fresno last Tuesday when a sub I hired reached across a running table saw to grab a cutoff. The blade caught his glove and pulled his left hand in before anyone could hit the switch. We had a first aid kit and called 911, and the paramedics said the cut was deep enough that he lost part of his ring finger. What got me was the push stick sitting right there on the fence, maybe 8 inches from his hand, and he just did not grab it. I shut the whole site down for the day and spent the afternoon going through every saw with the crew. Two guys admitted they skip the stick when the cut feels quick, so now we keep them tied to the cord with a zip tie so there is no excuse. How do you all get guys to actually use the safety gear when they think a cut is too fast to matter?
