Vent: Heard a guy at Home Depot say 'measure twice, cut once' like it was a revelation

I was grabbing some 2x4s and this younger guy was explaining to his friend why he wasted a board, and I just thought about how many times I learned that lesson the hard way myself. Anyone else have a simple rule that took way too many screw ups to actually stick?

honestly I think you're overthinking it a bit. yeah it sucks to mess up a board but it's just wood not brain surgery. half the fun of building stuff is making mistakes and figuring out how to work around them or just using the messed up piece somewhere else. I've definitely cut stuff too short and just used it as a spacer or firewood and moved on. plus half the time my second measurement is wrong too cause I'm distracted by my phone or someone talking to me.

Measure once, cut twice. Live dangerously.

You ever have one of those lessons where you had to ruin three or four projects before it finally clicked? Same here. I swear I wasted a whole sheet of plywood once because I got cocky and skipped the dry fit. That "measure twice" thing sounds so simple but it really does take a few disasters to actually believe it. Now I'm the guy who measures, then measures again, then maybe lays the tape measure down next to the cut just to double check. It feels dumb but it saves me money and frustration.
