I chose pocket screws over dowels for my last staircase job, zero regrets

Everyone in my crew swore by dowels for tight joints, but I needed to get 28 treads and risers done in 5 days for a client in Portland. I used pocket screws with a jig from my old boss, and honestly the alignment was rock solid. One guy said they'd split the oak, but I pre-drilled and glued everything, and it held fine through the final inspection. Anyone else ditch traditional joinery for speed and still got a solid result on a staircase?

Did the same on a deck rebuild, pocket screws with glue and it never budged.

Ha! My buddy did this on his stairs and the whole thing creaked like a haunted house.
