Check your ladder feet before that next big job, learned this the hard way

Last week over in Springfield, I was up on a 12-foot ladder doing fascia work on a two-story remodel. I didn't notice the rubber feet were cracked and one slipped sideways on some wet plywood, nearly took me down hard. Ngl, I've been using that same ladder for 3 years without checking the grips, and it only cost me $18 to replace the feet set. Has anyone else had a near miss from worn-out ladder parts, or do you inspect yours on a set schedule?

...and that's exactly why I treat my ladder like a bicycle now. If it doesn't get a quick once-over before I climb, I don't climb. The cracked feet thing got me too, but it was on a step stool at home. Fell backwards into a shrub, which was honestly the most embarrassing part. Now I just wiggle the feet with my boot before every use, takes five seconds and saves me from starring in my own safety video.

The foot wiggle trick is solid, I started doing that after my own scare.
