A client in Seattle pointed out my miter joints were opening up after a few months, saying 'you're not letting the wood move', and now I always leave a tiny gap before glue-up.
Has anyone else found a better way to account for seasonal movement on interior trim, or is that small gap the standard fix?

That tiny gap is the standard fix... works every time.

I've seen that gap trick fail on older models. The tolerances just aren't consistent enough to call it a standard fix. Calling it a sure thing feels like a stretch.

So what exactly counts as "every time" here? Seen plenty of guys swear by that gap fix, only to have the same issue pop back up a week later. On those older units, the whole bracket can be worn out. Just setting a gap might not fix the root problem at all. Calling it a standard fix feels like it ignores the real world where parts wear down differently. Would love to know what models and years you're calling a sure thing.
