Why does nobody tell you the $35 you drop on a career coach might make you cry in a parking lot
I paid a career coach $35 for one 30 minute call after I got passed over for a lead painter spot at my company here in Boise. She told me my resume read like a list of tasks and that I should stop saying I "helped with" things when I actually ran the whole crew for 8 weeks last summer. That was worth the money, honestly. Then she told me I should practice a story about a time I failed, and I ended up sitting in my truck in the WinCo parking lot at 7pm crying about a cabinet job I messed up in 2019. So it both saved me and burned me in the same phone call. Has anyone else had a cheap session like that hit way harder than the price tag would suggest?
Wait, did she really ONLY charge you $35 for that whole call? Because that part sounds off to me. Most coaches I have looked into want $75 to $150 just to get on the phone, even for a short intro session. If you truly got a 30 minute call for $35, you found a steal, and honestly the resume tip alone was worth more than that. The crying in the WinCo lot part, man, that is the stuff nobody warns you about. You spend money to fix your resume and end up digging up old job wounds instead. That failure story stuff gets people every time because you cannot fake your way through it, you have to actually feel it again. Sounds like she did her job, even if it wrecked your evening.
