Am I the only one who was scared to ask for a raise?

I worked for two years without a pay increase because I was too nervous to bring it up. My boss actually appreciated when I finally laid out my contributions. It led to a promotion I didn't expect. Now I see asking as part of the job. How do you prepare for these talks?

Laying out your contributions" is exactly the right move. I make a simple list of my specific wins from the past few months, just bullet points on a notepad. Then I practice saying them out loud once so I don't blank. It turns a scary talk into just sharing facts you already know.

Used to overthink these talks, but writing it down like @lane.seth said turns it into a solid list. Makes the whole thing much easier.

My friend actually brought a PHOTO of her finished projects to her review. Boss loved the visual proof and gave her way more than she asked for.
