Moved a car from Denver to Austin for $850 after 3 places quoted me over $1,200
Got quotes from three brokers for my old Civic and all of them came back between $1,250 and $1,500 for the Denver to Austin run. Tried a smaller carrier I found through a local Facebook group instead of the big sites, and he did it for $850 because he was already hauling a load down to Dallas that week. Anyone else had luck going straight to the smaller guys instead of the quote sites?
How did you actually find the smaller carrier through that Facebook group? I'm asking because I've tried the whole "go direct to the little guys" thing twice now and both times it went sideways. First guy ghosted me after I sent him my pickup address, second guy showed up three days late with some beat up trailer and wanted an extra $100 for "fuel costs" that he never mentioned upfront. The savings sound great in theory but I keep wondering if it only works when you catch them on a route they're already running, like your Dallas thing. Did you call the guy first or just message him and hope for the best?
