Put a drop of Ronsonol on a sticky Canon AE-1 shutter dial and it locked up for 20 minutes
I was cleaning the dial on a customer's AE-1 last Tuesday, one tiny drop of Ronsonol seeped into the shaft and froze the whole thing solid for about 20 minutes until it flashed off, has anyone else had lighter fluid migrate into a shutter speed dial like that or am I the only one who messed this up?
Heard about this from a guy on a repair forum, same thing with naphtha creeping down the shaft and locking things up till it dried. The thing is lighter fluid cuts old grease but it also washes out whatever lube is left in there, so the dial gets tight or sticks after. I read you're better off using a tiny bit on a swab and never dripping it near the shaft at all. Sounds like you got lucky it freed up after 20 minutes, could've been way worse.
