Lost a Nikon F3 shutter spring on a Tuesday, spent 4 hours on my hands and knees in the shop

The spring pinged off my tweezers and vanished somewhere in the carpet, so I taped a magnet to a broom handle and swept every inch until I found it stuck to the metal leg of my bench, and now I want to know if anyone has a better trick for finding tiny parts before they disappear forever.
