Wrote off compression fittings for years until a 2 AM call in Tuscaloosa changed my mind
I always soldered every tap and splitter because that is how the old timer who trained me did it, and I figured compression fittings were just cheap junk that would leak in a year. Two weeks ago I caught a service call at 1:45 AM in Tuscaloosa, rain coming down sideways, and I could not get a torch lit to save my life on a wet pedestal. I grabbed a 5/8 compression connector out of the van, had the drop back on in about 6 minutes, and it has held at 12 psi with zero moisture on the threads since. Maybe the newer fittings are just built better than the ones I tried 8 years ago. Any of you running compression on the regular, or am I going to regret this when summer heat hits?
