Question about the day I figured out my crimps were failing because of one dumb habit
I was doing a 12 unit apartment rough-in over in Bakersfield back in March and started getting callbacks on the same three jacks. My tester kept showing a pass, then the signal would drop a few days later. I pulled one of the plates and the connector slid right off the cable with almost no pull. That is when it hit me, I was stripping about a half inch too much jacket and letting the shield fold back under the nut instead of sitting flush on the ring. I had done it that way for close to two years because a trainer once showed me fast and I never checked his work. Now I use the little gauge on the crimp tool every single time and my callback rate on data drops is basically zero. Any of you get taught a shortcut early on that you later found out was costing you real jobs?
