Am I the only one who thinks running new drop lines in an attic in July is better than fishing a wall in a finished room? | Cable Installers - Chatter Central
Am I the only one who thinks running new drop lines in an attic in July is better than fishing a wall in a finished room?
Last month I was out in Fresno on a two story where the homeowner wanted a new outlet in the living room, and the wall had insulation packed in tight plus a fire block right where I needed to fish. I spent 90 minutes with a glow rod and a magnet trying to get past that block while the guy kept poking his head in asking how it was going. The attic was 130 degrees but once I got up there I dropped the line down the cavity in about 15 minutes flat. I keep hearing younger installers say they would rather stay cool and fish the wall, but I would take a hot attic over a finished wall any day of the week. You can see what you are doing up top, you can drill where you want, and you are not guessing at the back of a homeowner's drywall. My lead back in the day used to say attics build character but walls build callbacks, and I have not found a reason to argue with that yet. What is your go to move when a customer wants a jack in a room with no attic access, do you fish it or talk them into a different spot?
