Rant: my cousin's SSDI appeal took 22 months in Fresno and he almost gave up
My cousin applied for SSDI back in 2022 after a back injury kept him off work, and he got denied twice on his own. Last week he finally had his hearing in Fresno with a lawyer he found through a local legal aid clinic, and he said it felt like a totally different process. The lawyer pulled records from 3 doctors he never even thought to send in, and the judge actually asked follow up questions instead of just rushing him off the phone. I keep thinking about how many people just quit after that second denial letter. Has anyone here gone through a hearing without a lawyer and still come out okay, or is that just asking for another denial?
