PSA: I used to scrape my grill grates hot, now I do it cold, and I need someone to settle this
For about 3 years I scraped the grates right after pulling food off, while everything was still hot and sizzling, because that is what the guy who trained me at a spot in Reno showed me on my second day. Now I let the thing cool all the way down, sometimes overnight, then hit it with a brush and a wet rag, and honestly the crust comes off way easier with less elbow work. Problem is my old coworker swears hot scraping is the only way to keep the grease from soaking in, and he has been doing this for 11 years so I feel dumb arguing. Two sides here: hot scrape people say you get it before it sets, cold scrape people say you get more off and dont burn your knuckles. Which camp are you in and has anyone actually ruined a set of grates doing it the wrong way?
