My sister's 5 minute pasta trick turned my kitchen into a crime scene
She swore adding olive oil to the boiling water keeps noodles from sticking, so I dumped in a quarter cup. Turns out it just makes the pot foam like a science experiment and I had sauce water everywhere by the time I got back from the living room. My other brother says it's fine if you use less oil and salt instead, but I'm not risking another cleanup. Who's side are you on, oil in the pot or a post-rinse with cold water?

Quarter cup of oil in pasta water? That's not cooking, that's a biohazard drill. I once put a tiny splash in and still ended up with my stove looking like a foam party, and I wasn't even wearing flip flops. Cold water rinse for me, every time, even if it makes the noodles a little sad. My kitchen can't handle another disaster that requires a mop and a hazmat suit.
