Skeptical about using a smoke alarm as a timer - now I swear by it

I always thought people were joking when they said they let their smoke alarm tell them when dinner was done. Last week I burned a lasagna so bad the cheese turned black, and honestly the smoke alarm going off was the only thing that saved it from becoming charcoal. Has anyone else given up on actual timers and just let the smoke do the talking?

The smoke alarm is basically my new kitchen timer now. Set it to 350 degrees and wait for the music to start. I've saved three meals this week alone with that method. Burnt toast and crispy chicken have never been so perfectly timed.

Ngl I used to think people who relied on their smoke alarm as a timer were just bad at cooking lol. But after reading this, I gotta admit you changed my mind. The whole "set it to 350 and wait for the music" thing actually makes a weird kind of sense. Like, if the alarm goes off, you know it's done, no guessing. Might have to try this with my next batch of frozen pizza and see if it works as good as you say.

My buddy Mike actually tried this method @terryk28 after his smoke detector woke him up at 3am from a frozen pizza. He now brags that his smoke alarm has a 100% success rate for catching when his food is done. It's hard to argue with results even if the whole house smells like a campfire afterwards.
