I used to just scrape the black off with a knife and eat it dry, which tasted like ash and made me feel pathetic. Last week I torched a whole loaf on the broiler setting because I walked away to answer a text, and I almost tossed all 8 slices. The cook at a diner near Buffalo saw me complaining and said to rub the burnt spots with butter while the bread is still hot, then scrape gently with a spoon. I tried it and 6 out of 8 slices came back enough to eat with soup, the other 2 were too far gone. Does anyone else have a rescue move for burnt bread or do you just start over?
