Spent 3 weeks chasing a rattle in my dash that turned out to be a $2 pack of gum in the door pocket
I drive a 2016 Corolla and this rattle started about a month ago, sounded like it was coming from behind the glove box every time I hit a bump on I-35 near Waco. I pulled the whole dash apart twice, taped every wire harness I could reach, and even bought a $22 roll of felt tape off Amazon thinking it was plastic on plastic. My buddy rode with me one day and just reached into the driver door pocket, pulled out an old pack of Trident, and the noise was gone. Three weekends of my life, gone. What's the dumbest thing that turned out to be your mystery noise?
Did you at least get to keep the gum as a prize for your detective work? My dumbest one was a rattle in my old Civic that I swore was a loose heat shield, turned out to be a quarter stuck in the cupholder that had wedged itself under the console. I spent a whole Saturday under that car with a flashlight and a socket set before my kid found it in about ten seconds. The worst part is I had already told my wife it was a suspension problem, so I had to walk that back real quick.
