My odometer rolled over 200,000 on I-40 last Tuesday and I pulled over just to stare at it
I drive a 2011 Corolla and hit 200,000 miles outside Flagstaff during my commute, which honestly shocked me because I still think of it as a newer car. It made me wonder how long I can actually push this thing before repairs stop making sense. My mechanic said the motor is solid but the transmission is the wild card. What's the highest mileage you've gotten out of a daily driver before you finally gave up on it?
Had a 97 Camry that made it to 312k before the trans started slipping so bad I couldn't get on the highway. The motor still ran fine, it was everything around it that fell apart, and once you're looking at a trans rebuild on a car worth 1500 bucks it's game over. My rule is once a single repair costs more than the car's worth, I'm out. Corollas are about as good as it gets for going the distance though, so you might squeeze another 100k out of it if you keep up with fluid changes. Just start putting money aside now so the trans thing doesn't catch you off guard.
