My commute from Irving to downtown Dallas went from 50 minutes to 25 and I know exactly why
I drive I-30 east every morning and for two solid years it was a parking lot. 50 minutes to go 14 miles. Then about 8 weeks ago something flipped. Same road, same time, 7:15am, now I'm pulling into the garage in 25 to 28 minutes. First I thought it was summer and people were on vacation. But it kept going into September. Then I saw they finally opened the new ramp near the Sylvan exit and stopped forcing three lanes into one merge. That one merge was choking the whole thing. All those brake lights were just people fighting to get over at the last second. Now it moves. I still leave at the same time out of habit but I get to work early and just sit in my car like a weirdo. Has anyone else seen a spot near them get fixed by one small change like that?
That Sylvan merge was brutal, I used to hit it around 7:20 and it was just a wall of brake lights every single day. There's a spot on 635 near the Skillman exit that got the same treatment last year, they added like 200 feet of extra lane before the merge and it cut my buddy's drive by 15 minutes overnight. One little strip of pavement and suddenly everyone remembers how to drive.
