Can we talk about the left lane on I-5 at 5pm: fast lane or just a suggestion?

I used to camp in the right lane doing 62 the whole way home to Sacramento, but after riding a coworker's bumper for 40 minutes I flipped to the left lane and shaved 18 minutes off my drive, annoying at least 6 people along the way. So which is it, are you a right lane saint or a left lane racer, and does anyone actually feel good about their choice?
