Found out my gym membership was costing me $35 a month more than the walk-in rate

I was checking my bank statements last week because something felt off. I've been paying $59 a month for over two years at that big chain gym near the Arden mall. Turns out, if you just walk in and pay month to month at the front desk, it's only $24. No contract, no annual fee. I called to cancel and the guy on the phone didn't even try to keep me. Just said okay and gave me a confirmation number. I feel dumb for not checking sooner but also kind of relieved. Has anyone else found a sneaky price difference like this just by asking at the front counter?

That $35 difference is wild, makes me wonder what else I'm overpaying for. I found the same thing with my internet bill last year, just called and asked for a promo rate and suddenly saved $30 a month.

Read a consumer report saying 60% of companies rely on you just not asking.
