Warning: I almost paid $180 for a hostel bed in Lisbon until a bakery lady set me straight
I showed up in Lisbon last September with no room booked and the first two hostels I checked wanted $60 and $75 a night. A woman working at a tiny bakery near my tram stop saw me staring at my phone and asked if I was looking for a bed, then wrote down the name of a place by the Alfama stairs that charged me $19 a night. Has anyone else gotten their best travel tip from a random local instead of an app?
