The hostel owner in Lisbon who gave me a free food tour
Last spring I was in Lisbon for 5 days on a super tight budget, maybe $30 a day for everything. On my second night, the guy running my hostel saw me eating instant noodles on the roof and just sat down next to me. He said 'you're doing it wrong' and then walked me to three local spots, a bakery, a fish stand, and a tiny wine bar, introducing me to the owners so I got student prices. I ended up eating like a king for under $12 total that night. Has anyone else had a local or host go out of their way like that, or is this a Lisbon thing?

Man I can barely get a free bread roll at my local hostel, let alone a whole food tour, so either that guy was a saint or I've been picking the wrong hostels my whole life.
