My cousin swore I'd save money flying into a smaller airport 40 miles out, and I ate $70 in rides
Booked a trip to see my sister in Denver last month and my cousin kept pushing me to fly into a smaller airport way out past the city instead of the main one. He goes on and on about how the fares are always cheaper and I'd be dumb not to do it. The ticket was $58 less, so I figured easy win. What he left out is that the shuttle from that airport runs every 90 minutes and costs $32 one way, or you pay about $70 for a rideshare. I waited 50 minutes in the cold and still paid $34 for the shuttle, then did the same thing coming back. So the cheap fare ate itself and then some. Told him about it and he just said I should have rented a car, which would have cost even more. Has anyone figured out a real cutoff for when a cheaper out of the way airport is worth it, or do you just eat the fare difference and fly into the main one?
