Wasted $60 on one of those meal kit boxes, and the veggies were already going soft
Back when money was tighter than it is now, I figured one of those meal kit subscriptions would save me at the grocery store. Spoiled myself and got the 3-meal box for two people, came out to about $60 with the shipping, which felt like a lot but I told myself it beat running to the store every night. Problem was half the stuff showed up already limp, the green beans were rubbery and the herbs were brown before I even opened the bag. I ended up tossing maybe a third of it and still had to hit Kroger for the salt, oil, and butter they don't send. My mom never had any of this, she just cooked rice and beans and stretched a chicken for four days, and here I was paying extra to throw food out. Now I just buy the same stuff loose at the store for half the price and it's fresher. Did any of you try those boxes and find one that doesn't send you sad produce, or is that just how they all are?
Produce quality is the whole ballgame with those boxes. Soft green beans and brown herbs means it sat in a warehouse too long before it ever hit your door. Paying $60 to toss a third of it is a joke, and the fact you still needed staples from Kroger just proves the math doesn't work. My guess is they're all a gamble on the produce side, some weeks good, some weeks you get the sad bag.
