Shoutout to the folks who told me to stop buying chicken breast and get whole birds instead
I used to spend about $22 a week on boneless skinless chicken breast for two people. Then a guy at the Saturday market in Lexington told me to just buy a whole chicken for $7 and break it down myself. It took me three tries to get it right, but now I get two dinners plus a pot of stock out of one bird, and the stock alone saves me $4 a week on the boxed stuff. The part people get wrong is thinking whole chickens are a hassle when the real hassle is paying triple for someone else to cut it up. I've been doing this since March and my grocery bill for meat went from $88 a month to about $45. Anyone else switched over, and do you bother saving the backs and wing tips or just toss them?
