I keep seeing people say dried beans are too much hassle, and it's costing them like $40 a month
I grew up watching my grandma soak pinto beans overnight in a big dented pot on her stove in El Paso, so this whole trend of buying canned beans because they're "easier" drives me up a wall. Last Saturday I made a pound of dried black beans that cost me $1.29 and it fed my family of four for three dinners, while the same amount in cans would've been about $6.50. I timed it out of spite and the active work was eleven minutes total, the rest is just the pot sitting there doing its job while I do laundry. People act like soaking is some big project but you literally put beans in water before bed and walk away. The real issue is nobody tells you to salt the soaking water, which is why their beans turn out mushy and bland. If you gave up on dried beans before, what made you quit on them? I want to know if it was the texture or the time thing.
