Had to choose between store brand canned tomatoes and the name brand last Tuesday

I grabbed the store brand to save $1.20 but they were watery and made my chili taste like metal. My kids wouldn't even eat it and I threw half the pot out. Anyone else had bad luck cutting corners on something as simple as canned tomatoes?
