Am I the only one who thinks canned beans are a better deal than dried?
I keep seeing people on here say dried beans save you so much money, but I did the math at my Kroger in Akron and it does not work out for me. A one pound bag of dried pinto beans is about $1.79 and gives me maybe 6 cups cooked, but a can is $0.89 and gives me 1.5 cups, so the dried is cheaper per cup, sure. Here is the thing though, the dried ones need hours of soaking and simmering, which means my gas bill goes up, and I threw out two whole pots last winter because I undercooked them and they were crunchy. When I add in the wasted batches plus the extra time, the cans and the dried end up within pennies of each other for me. Has anyone else actually tracked their bean costs both ways, or am I just bad at cooking dried beans?
