Showerthought: My foreman in Omaha always said to wet bricks in summer, but a new guy from Arizona argued it can weaken the mortar bond.

He claimed the rapid drying in dry heat pulls moisture from the mix too fast. Anyone have a take on which method holds up better over a full season?

Sounds like a local materials problem.

Local materials problem is putting it lightly. I saw a whole housing development where the bricks crumbled after one wet season. They used cheap local clay without proper testing. Now every porch step is cracked and the mortar washes out in the rain. It's not just a problem, it's a predictable failure.
