Laid my 10,000th brick today without even noticing

I was just working on a garden wall for a lady in Oakville and counting was the last thing on my mind. But when I stopped for a smoke break I realized I had hit a big number without even trying. I mean it's not like I keep a tally every day but idk it just hit me how far I've come since my first job. I remember my first wall back in 2018 looked like a drunk kid built it with all the mortar squeezing out everywhere. Today's wall was clean and straight and the homeowner even said it looked professional. I guess sometimes the small consistent work adds up without you realizing it. Has anyone else had a moment where the numbers surprised you like that?

30k is a wild number. My uncle used to say he'd laid a million shingles over his career and I never believed him until I helped him on a roof last summer and we counted up the bundles. I always think about how a single brick or shingle doesn't mean much by itself but you stack enough of them and you've got a whole building. What kind of bricks were you using for that wall? I feel like the type of material makes a big difference in how fast you can get into a rhythm.

Yeah exactly, material changes everything. I was using these old reclaimed clay bricks that were a little uneven so it took forever to find the groove, but once you do it's almost like muscle memory takes over.
