Took me 11 days to find a store in Minneapolis that sells fresh durian, and I almost gave up twice
I got it in my head 2 weeks ago that I wanted to try fresh durian after only ever having the freeze dried stuff. Figured it would be easy, hit up 4 Asian markets around Minneapolis and all of them either had none or only frozen. Day 8 I called a place in St. Paul and the guy laughed and said they get a shipment maybe once a month. Finally found one on day 11 at a small market off University Ave, paid $28 for one fruit, and the guy there told me to eat it within 2 days. Got home, cracked it open on my porch because my roommate refused to let it inside, and honestly the smell was way worse than the taste. The texture threw me off more than anything, kind of like custard that forgot what it was doing. Anyone else have a food hunt that turned into a whole project, and was it worth it when you finally got it?
