Shoutout to the gal at the Austin plant swap who changed my mind about pruning my pothos
I always figured cutting back a pothos was a bad idea since it seemed to be doing fine on its own. Last Saturday at the swap in Austin, a woman looked at my vine and pointed out that 6 feet of bare stem between leaves meant the plant was stretched out and tired. She snipped three nodes off right there with her kitchen scissors and told me the vine would branch instead of just getting longer. Nine days later there are two tiny new leaves pushing out near the cut, and the rest of the plant looks fuller already. I used to baby every inch of vine like it was precious, but now I get that a hard trim is just part of keeping them happy. Does anyone else trim theirs this late in the season, or do you wait until spring?
