The grain direction on a $3 sheet of paper wrecked my project
I was folding a batch of signatures for a small journal last Tuesday and every single one came out crooked, so I finally looked it up and realized the paper grain runs the wrong way for folding... turns out it's the whole reason bookbinders obsess over that little arrow on the package. I got it from a local shop in Portland and they never mentioned it, now I'm second guessing every sheet I buy. Has anyone else had a project fall apart because of grain direction, or is it just me?

That little arrow on the package is a LIFELINE. I learned that the hard way with a simple zine once, the covers looked like they were trying to escape the staples. You really do have to ask the shop people in person, the arrow is easy to miss if you're not looking for it.
