Remembering when my uncle and I would repair family bibles together.

He taught me to reattach pages with linen thread. Now, most use quick fixes, but I keep his methods for important books.

Did you really use packing tape on a book?

Oh man, the shiny sticky wrinkles from packing tape are the worst. For a quick fix that's less awful, try archival document repair tape. It's thin and made not to yellow. Still not as good as sewing, but it won't make a mess. What kind of book are you trying to save?

Tried fixing a paperback once with scotch tape, looked like a kindergartener's art project. Then I graduated to packing tape, which just made shiny, sticky wrinkles. My uncle would've facepalmed at my "quick fixes" for sure. Still can't sew a straight stitch to save my life, so maybe I should stick to digital books.
