I used wheat paste on a 1930s ledger and the spine turned out way too stiff
Last month I rebound a water damaged 1930s accounting ledger for a lady in Fresno and decided to try wheat paste instead of my usual PVA for the spine. The paste dried rock hard and now the book cracks every time she opens it, which never happens with my normal glue mix. Has anyone else had wheat paste go stiff on them, and did adding something like glycerin actually help?
