The librarian at my book club in Boise handed out spoiler warnings before we even started and I thought it was silly
Then she pointed out that half our group had quit the last pick 40 pages in because someone blabbed the ending at the coffee table, and 6 of 11 of us admitted we do the same thing. Now I'm the one passing out little slips of paper with page numbers to stop at. Does your club do anything like this or do you all just wing it?
My mom was in a club in Twin Falls back in like 2011 and they had a rule where whoever picked the book had to give a heads up about one thing, just one, like "hey this one has a dog dying in it" or "there's a twist at the end." Not even the actual spoiler, just a warning that one was coming. Two ladies still got mad every single month, but the group lasted way longer than the other one in town that just winged it and blew up over some mystery novel nobody can even remember now. I kinda love your slip of paper thing because it puts the person who already read it in charge instead of making everyone walk on eggshells. Half the fun of a club is talking about the book and you can't do that if six people bailed at page 40. Do the slips go in the book or do you hand them out at the door?
