Finally finished a group read that took my book club 6 months

I'm part of a local book club that meets at the library on Main Street, and we finally wrapped up 'The Priory of the Orange Tree' last Tuesday. It took us like 6 months because half the members kept falling behind and we had to keep pushing back discussions. Honestly, I was about to quit the club over it because the pacing killed my excitement. But when we got to the last meeting, everyone actually finished and we had this amazing debate about the dragon symbolism for nearly an hour. Has anyone else dealt with a book that totally dragged out your club's schedule?

Man I heard about that book from a friend who said it was basically a commitment to finish. Six months though? That's rough.

Yeah, six months is a real slog. I get wanting to see it through, but that's a big ask for any book.
