Thinking about how board game meetups used to be vs now

I used to have a regular group that met at someone's house every week. Now we try to play online but it's not the same. What do other board game geeks do to keep the social part fun?

Seriously, my buddy lost his crew but found new people online. Works with @piper354's time zone thing too.

My old group in Denver fell apart years ago, but playing online actually saved the hobby for me. The digital tools handle all the setup and scoring for complex games, so we spend our time playing, not sorting pieces. I've reconnected with friends who moved across the country, something weekly house meets could never do. The social part is still there, just in a different, and for some of us, a more workable way.

Totally get that shift to online saving things... my own crew scattered after college, but we kept a weekly game night going on discord. It's funny how just hearing everyone's voice while moving virtual pieces keeps that same feeling alive. The time zone math can be a pain sometimes, but it beats not playing at all for sure.
