The countertop tripod trick actually fixed my dark kitchen shots, but is it cheating?
So I kept getting these shaky, grey photos of my kids eating dinner because the light in our kitchen is terrible after 6pm. Someone on here mentioned setting the camera on a stack of cookbooks instead of using a real tripod. I tried it with a 2 second timer and honestly the sharpness difference was huge. But now I'm wondering, does that count as a legit technique or am I just avoiding learning proper handheld settings? Has anyone else gone down this route and then struggled when they actually had to shoot without any surface around?

Two second timer on a cookbook stack is 100% legit, that's how half the pros started. Good photos are good photos, nobody's checking how you got them.
