Spent a week forging damascus, made 12 usable billets, then blew the last one on a rookie mistake
I had a near perfect run last Tuesday through Friday, my welds held, the pattern on the last billet was the best I've ever made. Then on Saturday I got distracted answering a phone call and let the forge climb too high, delaminated the whole thing in about 90 seconds. Question is, do you count the win from the good days or the loss from that final screw up when you're pricing your next commission?
You price the next one off the good billets, not the one you lost. Twelve out of thirteen is a great week, and that pattern billet still exists as proof you can do it. The phone call mistake just means you turn the forge down before you answer next time. Charge for the skill, not the slip.
