A guy at the flea market in Boise told me my forge was running too hot, and he was right
I was at a flea market in Boise last weekend looking for old hammers when this older guy watched me test a piece of scrap on my little forge. He said my fire was running too hot and I was burning the steel instead of heating it. I tried his method of watching the color and slowing down my air, and my hammered leaf came out way cleaner with less scale. I had been cranking the blower wide open for years without thinking about it. Has anyone else had a stranger spot a bad habit you did not even know you had?
