Unpopular opinion: Breaking Bad is actually overrated and I'm tired of pretending it's not
My buddy Mark brought this up at dinner last night and at first I was ready to argue. He said the show drags hard in seasons 3 and 4 with all the Gus Fring setup. I rewatched episodes 8-12 of season 3 on a flight yesterday and honestly he's right. There are like 4 episodes where basically nothing happens except Jesse moping. The pacing kills the binge factor for me. Anyone else feel like the slow parts ruin the rewatch value?

And that's exactly what happens with so many "prestige" shows now, they get praised for being deep but really they just have filler. I was watching The Wire with my cousin last month and he pointed out the same thing, whole seasons where the plot barely inches forward. I think we're just so used to binging fast paced stuff that when a show tries to be a slow burn it feels like work. Breaking Bad deserved the hype for sure but pretending every single episode is gold is just fanboy stuff. The real genius is in the acting and the payoff, not the boring middle bits where nothing happens for like an hour.

Boring middle bits where nothing happens for like an hour" - that's just perfect. I've watched shows where people rave about the "pacing" and I'm just sitting there wondering when something is actually gonna happen. Makes me feel less alone knowing someone else sees it too. You think some shows just get a free pass because of the network or director behind them?
