My old C-clamp gave out last week.

When you say your C-clamp gave out, I'm guessing it's the clamp itself that broke, not how it was stored. Those old clamps can just wear out after years of squeezing things tight. The metal gets tired or the screw strips, and that's it. It's different from pegboard hooks failing because you overloaded them. Sometimes tools just reach the end of their life.

Ugh, that's the worst feeling! Honestly, we always blame ourselves for not hanging things right, but sometimes the whole pegboard idea itself is the problem. The thin hooks just can't handle real tool weight if you actually use them. It's like they're made for display, not for a workshop that sees action. My whole setup did the same thing until I finally admitted defeat and got a proper heavy-duty rack.
