Park Tool chain checker vs. cheap caliper... night and day difference

Been using a cheap digital caliper to measure chain wear for like 2 years. Finally bought a Park Tool CC-3.2 last week. Checked my commuter chain with both. Caliper said 0.5% wear, Park tool said 0.75%. Took the chain off and it was stretched bad enough to skip under load. That caliper method gave me false confidence. Anyone else had a tool lie to them like that?

Morgans comment about assuming their measuring skills are bad hit home cause thats exactly what happened to me too. @morgan898 i was in the same boat, used a caliper for years thinking i was fine but the chain was toast the whole time. Park tool just tells it like it is.

Carter nailed it with the skepticism thing cause I was the same way. My cheap caliper told me my chain was fine for months until I actually laid a ruler next to it and saw the pins were practically trying to escape. Now I just assume my measuring skills are bad and let the Park Tool be the bad guy.
