Watched the guy at the tire shop write everything on a paper tag, and it made me think about my own job
I got two tires patched at a shop off Broadway in Denver last Tuesday and the owner still writes each job on a paper tag with a grease pencil. He hangs them on a rack by the bay and crosses them off as cars leave. I asked why he does not use a computer and he said the tags let him see the day at a glance. It got me wondering how many small routines I keep just because they work. Does anyone else have a low tech habit at work they refuse to give up?
Paper tags are a mess. They get lost, smudged, or rained on, and then nobody knows which car is which. A cheap laptop would pay for itself in a month just from not losing jobs.
