My coffee machine flooded my kitchen at 6 AM last Tuesday
I was in my apartment in Portland, half asleep, when I heard a weird gurgle. The reservoir on my 5 year old drip machine cracked, sending about a gallon of water across the counter and floor. I had to use every towel I owned to stop it from dripping into the downstairs unit. The whole cleanup took 45 minutes, and I was late for work. Has anyone else had a morning routine completely wrecked by a simple appliance failure?

My old toaster oven shorted out and started smoking right as I was making breakfast. The whole apartment smelled like burnt plastic for days, and I had to eat cold cereal while waiting for the repair guy.

Yeah that burnt plastic smell is the worst, it gets in everything. I saw a thing online where an electrician said that smell usually means the wiring insulation inside is melting, which is a real fire risk. Makes you want to just unplug small appliances when you're not using them.
